When I first began reading short stories a few years ago, I fell in love. In just a few pages, a few thousand words, these writers had created universes, peculiar characters, and told incredible stories. But I always wondered, where did the idea for this short story come from? As I began writing short stories, my question grew into what was the process for this short story? How did the idea sparkle in the beginning and then become realized over the drafting phases?
In this series, Campfire Stories, I’m indulging myself by trying to answer the questions I wish were asked of my favorite short story authors. Each episode will consist of me reading a piece and then talking about how the story first came to me and the process behind writing it.
